in other news…

I put my two weeks in on Friday. Which means in less than two weeks, I will officially be unemployed. Because you know, I have zero common sense and decided quitting was better for my sanity, despite the fact that THERE ARE NO JOBS TO BE HAD OUT THERE.
Seriously. To all my fellow classmates who just graduated college and have nothing to show for you time spent studying, I feel your pain. At least you guys have degrees. (I opted to just party like a college student. Now look where I am–whoopsie! I had a kid!)
But in all honesty, it was not worth the tears or unhappiness and general shittiness it contributed to my life. It also means that Parker might be potty training earlier than expected, as Mama might not have diaper money. (But I totally have money for the cookies and cupcakes* I bought as a spirit uplifter after I quit. You know, priorities.) But I’ll be happy with life, right? Even though I’ll be broker than I already am? And this blog will become “Making it with the Beans, Rice Krispies, Juicy Juice, and Eggs You Get Free from WIC?” Maybe I’ll just go back to playing poker online. (Ha! Never again.)

*If you’re in Phoenix, go to Urban Cookies. (And if you’re not, they ship!) It’s fantastic. I went for the first time Friday, and I asked the guy working the counter what his favorites were, and his response was “It’s so hard to choose when you’re the one making them all.” Seriously, how can you deny something like that? The person selling you your food is the guy who actually made it. I’m not really into the whole cupcake thing, as I find it silly as most versions are overpriced and not that good, but these are fabulous. As are the cookies. Go!
kids+pool+pizza=really good naps

So I decided to stop being a lazy ass and actually cook something. I’d like to say it was for me, or even for you guys, but really, I just felt bad for my kid. Plus my little (three year old) sister was over, and really there’s nothing that better passes the time than an involved cooking project. My sister is a whole lot pickier than Parker is–her diet consists mainly of eggs, rice, and boloney and cheese sandwiches with ketchup. So we made the most kid friendly thing I could think of: pizza.
And I figured after all my bitching and moaning about the heat to you guys, why not crank the oven up to 500?
self indulgence

So if you haven’t heard, I live in Arizona. And today, the high was 115 degrees. It is currently 8:30, and according to Google, it is 106. Dinner lately has been a combination of tamago gohan, chips and hot sauce/guacamole, Triscuits and cherries, and when I’m feeling ambitious, my favorite chopped salad (which I promise I will eventually get around to posting about). Basically, there be no cookin’ round these here parts. Sure, I’ve got plenty of back-logged half finished drafts and pictures, but well, even thinking about the stove being on makes me hot. (Or is that just my genes? Jokes!)
So please, give me my moment of self indulgence. I’m not sure if you remember, but despite my potty mouth and my affinity for the bottle, I’ve got a little MiniMe running around. And you know, sometimes I actually try to do good when it comes to him. On that note, I’ve compiled a little list of food-related children’s books that occupy a place both in the bookshelves and heart of Mr. Parker. The following list is small-just a few of our favorites that I think those of you with kiddos will (or do) enjoy. My other hope is that you guys will jump in and be all know-it-all-y and share some that I’ve missed!
back to procrastinating

Apparently my server decided to take a nap for a couple days, but I’m up and running again. They blame Wordpress, but come on now, let’s not point fingers. (It was totally my server!) Let’s all pour another glass of wine and bake a cake. There’s blogging to be done! (Though who’s gonna do it is beyond me–you guys got two last week. Sometimes a girl’s gotta wash her hair.) New stuff soon!
yeast infection

So guess what I did today guys? Locked my kid in the car with my keys and my phone! In the 100 degree heat! (Thank God it was only 10 AM and not later in the afternoon.) Fortunately (?), the fire department was right next to the plaza I was in. Interestingly enough, my stepdad managed to drive five minutes down the street, try and jimmie the door open, then finally start whacking at the window with a jack and got Parker out minutes BEFORE the firefighters could make it 100 yards to where we were. I’m not knocking the fire department and all that they do, but seriously, I WAS FUCKING FRANTIC. Luckily, it just so happened that we were in the parking lot of our pediatrician, so he got all sorts of popsicles and SpongeBob stickers up the wazoo. Then they poked needles in his legs.
