you only get what you give
Muahaha, what up kids? I’m still hangin around, and hopefully you are too! I know it’s been over a month since I’ve been around, but because I am clearly a crazy person, I moved. Again. Yes, I just moved six months ago, but you see, a certain someone offered up his home to me. (All the baked goods and pasta worked.) And when someone offers you a home without uncomplicated roommates, you go for it. Plus, he’s a pretty good snuggler. Oh, and he takes out the trash, and kills bugs! And he kinda likes me, and I kinda like him a whole lot too. Win-win, no?
Anyway, I’ve been doing super fun things like painting trim, transforming what were blue (!) cabinets into chocolate brown, and putting Parker in his new big boy bed. And as you can see, my stove hasn’t always been you know, plugged into the wall. We’re also having a totally awesome haunted housewarming this weekend, which means I get to make super cool and classy food like Jack o Lanterns puking guacamole, and hot dogs wrapped in dough like mummies, and ladies’ fingers. Ahem.
Maybe you should be glad I haven’t been posting…

So since I have nothing to tempt your stomachs with, I’m going to attempt to buy your love back. In light of Gourmet’s recently folding, I’m giving away a year’s subscription of it’s sister, Bon Appetit. I know! Craziness! I’m like Miss Moneybags these days (ha, not). But really, all you have to do is leave a comment below. Tell me what you had for breakfast, that you totally wish I posted more videos of my kid eating stuff, suggest your favorite Gourmet recipe, shower me with compliments, whatever. Just let me know you’re still hanging around! I’m going to leave it open to comments for a while, let’s say… a week. I’ll be checking after It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! airs next Wednesday, October 28. You know, just to keep things official and all.
Oh, and if you already have a subscription to Bon App, leave a comment anyway! Not that I’m lacking for love around here in these new digs, but why kill my buzz? All the cool kids are totally doing it. Duh.
I’ll be back soon, I promise. And probably with really cool Halloween costume pictures. Ha, maybe. If you’re really lucky.

yep, totally still hangin’ around. Dug your kid vid on FB, and looking forward to seeing you create something sexy and cool to cook (and eat), sometime.
:-)
luck and love …
Oh yes, still hanging around. And I can’t wait for photos of the haunted housewarming - I always LOVE a jack-o-lantern puking guac!!! (I’m stealing that for my party this weekend, so there.) Good news on the new digs, and here’s hoping a happy Meleyna will mean a COOKIN’ Meleyna!
Lol, that’s a lot of work, though I’m sure the end result will look amazing!
Well, for breakfast I actually had beef ramen with a few spoonfuls of canned tomato sauce mixed in (not the kind you serve over pasta, the kind you use to start a sauce with, though I never really use it but for meatloaf and stuff).
I’m still here! Love to watch Parker videos. He cracks me up and like reading ur posts. U have a lot to say and comes out funny.”LMAO”good thoughts always enjoy it!
Oohh ohh! I so need a subscription to Bon Appetit! I was gonna subscribe to Gourmet, but jesus, they had to go and leave so suddenly. Lame of them. They and Bon Appetit have like thee best recipes!
Ok, so you need compliments… you’re pretty. I like you?
Does that work?
ok. no. I see. How about I wish that you posted more often because you’re really funny and the food blogging community needs more people like you. Someone who doesn’t need to have the word “Pink” or “Bake” in their blog title. There is such unoriginality out there and you totally surpass that in your youthful age. By the way, good choice on the cabinet color! I kept my cabinets white and my walls brown! Great and brilliant minds think alike I suppose!
Oh and I supposed to tell you what I had for breakfast. Hmm, I think I had seaweed or coffee with oat milk, or something like that. I don’t eat very well. It’s embarrassing.
My favorite Gourmet recipe, well, so far it’s the Pumpkin flan I made http://thescootabaker.blogspot.com/2009/09/pumpkin-flan-with-honey-cayenne-whipped.html OMG, yes I said it. OMG! Love it!
WOw I like posting extended comments on other peoples blogs. sorry.
luv ya!
missed ya!

I just found this blog and I think you’re HILARIOUS. Congrats on some great content, wonderful recipes, and the move!
@Amanda: Haha, I didn’t know you still read this! Hope your Halloween party goes well.
@Scootabaker: Lmao, you crack me up. Clearly, your extended comments are not an issue, as I tend to leave blog posts of my own in your comment section. Obviously, great minds think alike.
@Katie: Hi. Welcome. :)
hey chickie, your blog makes me smile! glad that you are back. good luck with all the “fun” moving stuff! your kid rocks! keep on cookin’ and postin’

Hi Mel!
I don’t want a subscription to whatever cooking magazine it is youre giving away for a couple reasons. 1.) My self esteem isn’t high enough right now to shrug off the inevitable failures that would follow any attempts on my behalf to cook… anything… sidebar… i set seans kitchen on fire last week by putting spaggeti in a pot before the water was boiled at just the right angle to make it so half of it went soft and the the other half fllopped over the side and into the flame… The second is that I have you to cook for me my love…. I <3 makingitwithmelyena.com
Well now I don’t have to beat you since you’re generously attempting to buy back our love and support. : ) Never left.
……Would totally LOVE to win a nice subscription! Sweet! I don’t have a blog yet, but am enjoying yours sooo much! I think your son is the cutest. I also love what you did with the kitchen in your new home.
Can’t wait for Charlie Brown, spending the evening with grandkids and so much food! ;)
